New Discoveries
On a warm afternoon of Valentine's day - 14th February 2008 I found a native Dung Beetle.
Onthophagus auritis

Length: 6-11 mm
Colour: Glossy black with purple / green tinge, elytra (wing covers) often reddish brown. antennae clubs - yellow.
Active period of Adults: Spring & Summer
Special distinguishing Features: Adults have a triangular bump on their head when you look at them the dorsal view. (Front)
Lifespan: Not sure
Status: Common of its distribution:
Distribution: Tasmania, South East coast of South Australia, Victoria, Glenrowan NE Victoria , Eastern & Northern New South Wales & Southern Queensland to the Black hall ranges in Casuarina-Eucalypt woodlands along the coast & sclerophyll forest in highland areas. Also found in Urban / Rural places.
Flight time: Adults fly from day time to dusk & are attracted to bright lights on warmer nights.
