About Insectographs
We are situated on the eastern slopes of the Warby Ranges near Glenrowan in North East Victoria, Australia. Our location is not far from the Warby Range State Park.
I've had an interest in insects ever since I was a kid. I'd often be outside wondering what other life forms would be lurking beneath the surface, on the surface as well as underwater.
My dad had a collection of insects in a cupboard at home as part of a course he completed at Dookie Agricultural College dating back to the early 1970s. On a Summer day in March 1999, we both inspected the boxes to check them out, but the silverfish had destroyed nearly the entire collection. Luckily we have photos of them.
My dad showed me how to use a sweep net to catch insects and a humane way of killing them. We developed a better way of presenting them, spreading their wings into desired position etc. It took a while to perfect this rare & special technique.
I found that other people were interested in buying insect specimens. We made contact with a company in Melbourne, Victoria and got a contact to supply some dragonflies & damselflies for university students.
