The best way to discover what is Lurking beneath the water, use an Aquatic Sweeping Net, when you have found some life forms, get a substantial size jar, or a Plastic house. Make sure it has air holes, fill it with clean water, & place them inside.
If you are NOT going to keep them, release them back where you collected them from.
